Digital technologies have had a major impact on our everyday lives: smartphones and the apps that run on them make it easier for us to communicate with each other, pay quickly or show our Covid vaccination when we go to a café or refectory. Behind them is a lot of code and various algorithms that recognize images or ensure secure data transfer, for example.

Digitalization and automation also play an important role in the field of medicine, which is gaining more and more public attention. The interface between these areas, leads us to the Digital Life Sciences (DLS). These new technologies have many potential benefits, such as more efficient data processing, in counting Covid-19 infections. They also enable better detection of diseases or make better predictions of disease progression.

We will ask the question: how are such new technologies changing health care and medical research?

This course on the future of medicine is designed to provide an overview of Digital Life Sciences, giving students from all faculties insights into currently researched digital medical technologies.
