In the year 2020, humanity faces many challenges that need to be overcome: global poverty, climate change and COVID-19 to only name a few. In this lecture series, we will investigate systematically how to tackle these and other global challenges in the most effective way. Our analysis will be evidence-driven and informed by academic research as well as insights from the philanthropic sector.
The overarching goal of this course is to convey scientifically grounded ideas and methods that the participants can apply in their own lives to do good more effectively.
Our course will feature talks from world-leading experts, both from academia and the philanthropic sector. For example, some of our speakers research how to mitigate climate change or prevention strategies for global pandemics and will discuss their findings with us. Other speakers have founded internationally operating charities and will share with us the experience and insights they gained by working directly on saving lives.
This course is organized by the student initiative Effective Altruism Aachen in cooperation with “Projekt Leonardo” and Prof. Kellerwessel.

The overarching goal of this course is to convey scientifically grounded ideas and methods that the participants can apply in their own lives to do good more effectively.
More specifically, the students gain an overview of various global challenges and learn about possible approaches to solving them. They understand what the scientific method means in the context of charity work and are able to compare various aid programs on the basis of their effectiveness.
