Our mobility has changed frequently over time. Reasons for this include changing needs or new technologies. The various influencing factors often interact with each other. Drastic events (like the Corona pandemic) can also initiate a realignment of mobility. Which adjustments are necessary today? Which of them will persist in the long run? Does innovation take place only in technical isolation or holistically, looking at factors such as social acceptance, economic viability or environmental compatibility? Ultimately, we argue that mobility must be understood and developed as a dynamic socio-technical system. To answer these questions, a historical perspective is helpful, because the present is a product of the past; those who understand the latter can shape the future.
The module will critically examine mobility and its development. Different actors from and outside the RWTH as well a regional experty will discuss transformations of mobility with us. The focus will be on changes in the context of external impulses, such as the corona pandemic, the oil crises or the climate crisis. We look forward to discussions with you!
The module content enables students to interpret mobility and its actors historically and systematically and to critically evaluate research and teaching. Recommendations for the definition of sustainable mobility research and concepts will be drafted independently.
Accordingly, the module emphasizes communication between students and lecturers. All sessions will provide a 45-minute discussion component. Guiding information material will be available in advance in the learning room.
