Effective Altruism

In the year 2023, humanity faces many challenges that need to be overcome:  global conflicts, global poverty, climate change, or the rise of new potentially dangerous technologies like advanced AI systems or bioengineered pathogens. In this lecture series, we will systematically investigate how to tackle these and other global challenges in the most effective way. We want to find the best ways to help others and understand how this can be done in practice. Our analysis will be grounded in ethical philosophy, evidence-driven, and informed by academic research as well as insights from the philanthropic sector.

The course will feature talks from leading experts. For example, some of our speakers will share their research on how to improve global health, how to reduce animal suffering, or how to make new emerging technologies safe. Other speakers have founded internationally operating charities and will share with us the experience and insights they gained by working directly to improve lives.
